Different apps, built the same way.
Rocky River Apps is an independent studio in Colorado. We make apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac.
What the two apps have in common
Table Torch is a reading light for a dim restaurant table. Backmarker is a companion for a global sport, with every championship since 1950 inside it. They look nothing alike, but they were built the same way. Each does one job. Neither asks who you are. And both know when to stay out of the way: Table Torch keeps its light off the rest of the table, and Backmarker can keep the result hidden until you want it.
What we care about
One job each.
Table Torch is a light. Backmarker follows a race weekend. Neither tries to be anything else.
Nothing to sign up for.
No accounts, no ads, no tracking. Table Torch collects no data at all, and Backmarker runs without analytics.
Fewer, better apps.
We would rather keep improving a few apps than keep shipping new ones.
Your attention is yours.
A reading light that doesn’t blind the table. A race app that can keep the result to itself. A price you pay once, or nothing at all.
The name and the mark
The stone is the studio; the cut is where an app’s light comes through.
Rocky River is Colorado: granite, high country and rivers fed by snowmelt. Our mark is a granite stone split by one straight cut, the river through the rock, like the quartz veins in Colorado granite. Inside each app’s room, the cut takes that app’s own light.
Set in Atkinson Hyperlegible Next
Every word on this site is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible Next, a typeface made for the Braille Institute so that people with low vision can read more easily. It suits a studio whose first app is about reading in the dark.
The studio feed
News from the studio, including the day Backmarker ships, is published as a feed. Add this address to any feed reader: www.rockyriverapps.com/feed.xml. There is no account and no email address to give, and nothing to unsubscribe from.
Say hello
Write to us about the apps, or about anything else. We occasionally help other teams with app design and data work, too.
